Free Image Resizer Online — Resize Photos to Any Dimension
Resize your image instantly. Upload an image (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF). Enter your target dimensions or pick a preset. Download your resized image.
Why Resize Images?
You don't always need a 6000 x 4000 photo. Usually, you need something much smaller.
Fit platform requirements
Each social platform has specific size requirements. Upload the wrong size, and the platform crops your image badly or rejects it entirely. Use the presets above. No guessing.
Reduce file size (indirectly)
Resizing to smaller dimensions automatically reduces file size. A 4000 x 3000 image (12 megapixels) is 4-6MB. The same image at 1200 x 900 is 400-600KB. Resize first. Then compress for even smaller files.
Prepare print-ready files
Print requires higher resolution than web. 300 DPI at the final print size. A 4x6 inch photo needs 1200 x 1800 pixels. A standard 8x10 needs 2400 x 3000 pixels. Resize to exact dimensions before sending to the printer.
Create consistent product images
Ecommerce stores need all product photos at the same dimensions. A mix of 800x800, 1200x800, and 600x800 looks unprofessional. Resize everything to a standard size (usually 1000x1000 for square, 1200x800 for rectangular).

YouTube
Thumbnail: 1280 x 720 pixels (16:9 ratio)
Channel banner: 2560 x 1440 pixels (safe area 1546 x 423)
Video player: 1920 x 1080 for HD, 3840 x 2160 for 4K
Pro tip: YouTube thumbnails are the #1 factor for click-through rate. Always resize to exactly 1280 x 720. Use bold text and high-contrast colors.
Twitter (X)
Header photo: 1500 x 500 pixels
Post image: 1600 x 900 pixels (displays at 600 x 335 in feed)
Card image: 800 x 418 pixels (for link previews)
Pro tip: Twitter's feed crops images differently on web vs. mobile. Test your image before posting.
Pin image: 1000 x 1500 pixels (2:3 ratio is ideal)
Square pin: 1000 x 1000 pixels
Story pin: 1080 x 1920 pixels
Pro tip: Pinterest's algorithm favors taller pins (2:3 ratio). Avoid square or landscape pins for new content.
Passport photos (standard)
US passport: 600 x 600 pixels (2x2 inches at 300 DPI)
Digital upload: 413 x 531 pixels (exact dimensions for online applications)
Pro tip: Most online passport applications reject images that aren't exactly 413 x 531. Use the preset above.
Aspect Ratio Explained (Why Your Image Gets Stretched)
You entered 800x600. Your original image is 1920x1080. The image resizer online asks: do you want to stretch it, or keep the proportions?
What is aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height.
1:1 — Square (Instagram post)
4:3 — Older TV and monitor shape (standard digital camera)
16:9 — Widescreen (YouTube, modern monitors)
2:3 — Portrait photography (Pinterest pin)
9:16 — Vertical video (Instagram story, TikTok)
Your image has a natural aspect ratio. If you enter dimensions that don't match that ratio, you have two choices.
Option 1: Lock aspect ratio (recommended)
The tool keeps your image's proportions. If you enter a width of 800, the tool calculates the matching height automatically.
Example: 1920x1080 (16:9) → resize width to 800. Height becomes 450 (not 600). No distortion. Image looks exactly the same, just smaller.
Option 2: Unlock aspect ratio (stretch)
The tool forces your image into exactly the dimensions you enter, regardless of original proportions.
Example: 1920x1080 (16:9) → force to 800x600 (4:3). Image stretches vertically. Circles become ovals. People look taller and thinner.
When to stretch: Almost never. Stretched images look unprofessional.
What to do when dimensions don't match
You need 800x600 (4:3). Your image is 1920x1080 (16:9). Lock aspect ratio. Set width to 800. Height becomes 450. Now you have empty space (white bars) on top and bottom.
Better solution: Use a crop feature or resize to 800x450 and add a colored background. Don't stretch.

Tips for Resizing Without Losing Quality
Resizing down (larger to smaller)
Safe. A 4000x3000 image resized to 1200x900 looks great. You're removing pixels, not creating them. Always resize down for web use.
Resizing up (smaller to larger)
Problematic. A 600x400 image resized to 1200x800 has to invent 600,000 new pixels. The result looks blurry or pixelated. Avoid upscaling. Start with a larger original.
When you must upscale
Some tools use AI upscaling (Topaz Gigapixel, Adobe Super Resolution). Our tool uses standard interpolation — fine for small increases (10-20%), bad for large increases (2x or more). For important images, start with higher resolution originals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this image resizer really free?
Yes. No sign-up. No limits. No watermarks. Resize as many images as you want.
What image formats do you support?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF. Maximum file size 10MB. Output format matches input format.
What's aspect ratio and why does it matter?
Aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height (e.g., 16:9, 4:3, 1:1). If you change dimensions without locking aspect ratio, your image stretches and distorts. Always lock aspect ratio unless you want weird proportions.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Not in this version. Upload and resize one image at a time. For bulk resizing, use desktop software like IrfanView (Windows) or ImageOptim (Mac).
Does resizing affect image quality?
Resizing down (making smaller) never loses quality. Resizing up (making larger) always loses quality — the image becomes blurry or pixelated. Start with the largest original you have.
What's the difference between this and the image compressor?
Image resizer changes dimensions (pixels). Image compressor changes file size (kilobytes) while keeping dimensions the same. Use both: resize first to your target dimensions, then compress to reduce file size.
What preset should I use for Instagram?
Use Instagram Post (1080x1080) for square posts. Use Instagram Story (1080x1920) for stories. Avoid uploading larger images — Instagram compresses everything to 1080px on the longest side anyway.
What's the best size for YouTube thumbnails?
Exactly 1280 x 720 pixels. That's the YouTube Thumbnail preset. YouTube recommends this exact size. Larger images get scaled down. Smaller images look blurry.
Can I resize an image to passport photo dimensions?
Yes. Use the Passport Photo preset (413 x 531 pixels). This matches US passport and visa online application requirements. Always lock aspect ratio to avoid distortion of facial features.
Does this tool keep my EXIF data (camera settings)?
No. Our tool strips EXIF metadata by default (camera model, GPS coordinates, date taken). Good for privacy. For print work requiring embedded color profiles, use desktop software.
Can I resize a GIF animation?
Yes, but with limitations. The tool resizes the first frame only. Animated GIFs will lose animation. Use dedicated GIF tools for animated resizing.
How do I know what dimensions to use for social media?
Use the presets dropdown above. Each preset matches current platform recommendations (as of 2026). Platform dimensions change occasionally. We update presets when they do.
What's the maximum image resolution?
No hard resolution limit, but maximum file size is 10MB. A 50-megapixel RAW file converted to JPEG at 90% quality might exceed this. Downsize in your camera or photo software first.
Can I resize a WebP image?
Yes. WebP is fully supported. Input WebP, output WebP. Use the Image Compressor afterward if you need even smaller files.
